ATLIP (Atorvastatin Calcium) is a synthetic lipid – lowering agent .It is a selective, competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methyiglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, an early and rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis.Atorvastatin reduces total cholesterol © , low –density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, apolipoprotein (apo-B) and triglycerides (TG) in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia.
INDICATIONS
 Primary hypercholesterolaemia, heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia,homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia or combied (mixed) hyperlipdaemia in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and other appropriate measures; prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diavbetes and at list one additional risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
 Primary hypercholesterolemia and combied hyperlipidemia-usually 10 mg once daily; if necessary, may be increased at intervals of at least 4 weeks to maximum 80 mg once daily.
 Child 10-17 years- usually 10 mg once daily (limited experience with doses above 20 mg daily.
 Familial hypercholesterolemia – initially 10 mg once daily, increased at intervals of at least 4 weeks to 40 mg once daily; if necessary, further increased to maximum 80 mg once daily(or 40 mg once daily combied with anion- exchange resin in heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia);
 Child 10-17 years initially 10mg daily , increased if necessary after at least 4 weeks to 20mg once daily(limited experience with higher doses)
 Prevention of cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetes, 10mg once daily.
 Note: maximum 10mg daily with concomitant Cyclosporine, maximum 20mg daily (or temporarily discontinue Atorvastatin) with concomitant Clarithromycin; maximum 40 mg daily (or temporarily discontinue Atorvastatin ) with concomitant Itraconazole.
PRECAUTIONS
 Before instituting therapy with Atorvastatin , an attempt should make to control hypercholesterolemia with appropriate diet, exercise and weight  reducation in obese patients and to treat other underlying medical problems.
USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
 ATLIP (Atorvastatin Calcium) is contraindicated in pregnancy and while breast-feeding. Women of child bearing potential should use appropriate contraceptive measures. If the women become pregnant while taking Atorvastatin, it should be discontinued.
PACKAGING
 ATLIP 20 tablet: Each box contains 10 x 10’s tablets in alu-alu bilster pack. Each film-coated tablet contains Atorvastatin Calcium USP equivalent to Atorvastatin 20mg.
