DESCRIPTION
Sitalia (Sitagliptin) is a DPP-4 inhibitor ,which is believed to exert  its actions in patients  with type  2 diabetes by slowing the inactivation of incretin hormones. Concertration of the active intact hormones  are increased by Sitalia (Sitagliptin).thereby increasing and prolonging the action of these hormones. Incertain hormones , including glucagon-like peptide-1( GLP),are  released by the intestine throughout the day  and levels  are increased in response to a meal.These hormones are rapidly  inactivated by the enzyme ,DPP-4 .The incretins  are part of an endogenous system involved in the physiologic  regulation of glucose homeostasis.When blood glucose concentration are normal or elevated ,GLP- 1 also lowers glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells ,leading to reduced hepatic  glucose production .By increasing insulin release and decreases glucagon levels in the circulation in a glucose-depentet manner.
INDICATIONS
Sitalia (Sitagliptin) is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor indicated as an adjunct to die and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
DOSAGE & ADMINSTRATION
The recommended  dose of Sitalia (Sitagliptin) is 100mg once daily .Sitalia  (Sitagliptin)can be taken with or without  food.
Dosage as
adjudtment  is recommended for patients with moderate or serve rena l insufficient  or end-stage renal disease .

PREGNANCY  AND  LACTATION
Pregnancy Category B. no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women .Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response ,this drug should be used during pregency only if clearly needed.
It is not known whether Sitalia (Sitagliptin) is excerted is excerted in human millk .Because many drugs are exerted in human millk,caution should be ecercised when Sitalia(Sitagliptin) is administered to a nursing woman.

Sitalia 100 tablet : Each box contains 3 x 10s tablet in alu-alu blister pack .Each film coated tablet contains Sitaliptin 50mg.Phosophate  Monohydrate INN equivalent to Sitagliptin 100mg.
